The end of October, and the beginning of the long dark winter nights. My favourite time of year.

As always, the time flies.

Many of the daily blocks are outlined with textured yarn – silk or cotton boucle, or cotton slub. I use mainly my own hand-dyed silk and cotton threads for the stitching.
Today’s ghostly grey stripes for Samhain (or Hallowe’en) are in fine silk. Looking at, looking between, looking beyond; sensing the veil between the worlds.

As usual, some daily blocks turned out better than others. That’s life.

None of it matters, really. This is just a visual witness to the passage of time as each day moves to the next. These are moments within the days in my life. Moments arrive and then are gone forever, the present constantly melting into the past before our very eyes.
The other side is almost as interesting.

And the end of the year is in sight:

I’ll be back later in the month with news of the templates for 2026. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and happy stitching.

Karen, the back side is lovely and neat! Then I read “two months to go” the year has gone so fast. Grand kids are growing older and so am i lol… the weather is starting to turn here in Northern Ontario, it is really fall. Happy sewing!
Ha, it really does fly doesn’t it? I’m looking forward to the dark half of the year, so much more restful than summer.
Your work is lovely and inspiring!
Thanks so much Terri, that’s really kind
Beautiful, as usual. Your combinations of stitch and color are always intriguing.
thanks so much Norma, that’s very kind
I admire how you come up with different stitch patterns day after day, week after week. I lost my mojo in less than a month. Not that I\’m not stitching but I find myself drawn to other projects where I can make \”functional art.\” Sure, that\’s my story and I\’m sticking to it.
Ha, there’s a lot to be said for functional art 🙂
None of it matters and it all matters, all at once.
I love the grey for Hallowe’en. The inbetween, the liminal, the beyond and the present. I love this time of year too. (Although it was 27 C today which is a big improvement and relief from earlier this week but still not really that cool, almost cold but not quite, autumnal feel.)
wow, 27c seems pretty hot – it rarely gets that high in the summer here. Currently a comfortable 13c here today and cool enough for a warm cardigan 🙂 Really like your thoughts on all of it and none of it mattering – totally get that. Everything all at once has been a bit of a personal theme this year.
