It wasn’t much of a week off in the end, because – surprise – this happened:

I just got lucky with the weather – decent light followed by a good drying day – so thought I would seize the day and all that. I’ll have a couple of easy days this week to make up for it.
I did manage to catch up with myself a bit on the other days. I got to the end of Tabula Rasa, and I’m not sure that’s its name any more but I’ve yet to think of a better one.

I also enjoyed a little mixed media sketchbook exploration with some motifs based on the stitching.

The thread will take a while to wind but in the meantime there is probably enough left in the shop to cover thread-based emergencies.
For various reasons, I’ve decided to streamline and simplify my shop contents. For the time being I won’t be making more fabric packs, so most remaining fabrics are currently in the shop on sale to clear. Prices have already been adjusted so you don’t need discount codes, and when they’re gone they’re gone so be quick if you’re interested. I hope you can find something lovely to add to your collection.

Back to work after a holiday used to mean my apathetic return to the office where a thousand emails were waiting for me. These days back to work means winding beautiful thread by an open window listening to a robin singing in the garden. What luck. Hope your week is going well too.

Sounds like you have your priorities right. I was awake in the night (never mind why) so did some grid couching at 4 a.m. It was soothing and just right.
ah, waking up at that kind of time isn’t much fun, but glad you found some calming stitching. Wishing you a better night’s sleep tonight.
Hi Karen, those threads look so beautiful!
I have gathered threads over the years, usually freebies, car boot, etc. I wasn\’t sure if I would enjoy embroidery so didn\’t want to spend out.
Before your holiday I bought some of yours and wow! I LOVE them! I never knew stitching could feel so different! I will definitely be buying more soon!
I have also made a 10 inch square, following your guidance and really enjoyed it. I may make a bigger one for my wall.
So, I just wanted to say a big thank you! Bye for now Marian x

that’s so kind, Marian, thank you. Good quality materials can often make all the difference, and I’m so glad you like the threads. I hardly ever use anything else now, having had many frustrating times in the distant past with poor quality threads that were forever splitting and fraying.
Hi Karen… It sounds like you had a very productive “vacation” . I recently received an order of threads from you and have to say they are my absolute favorites to use in the calendar project and otherwise.
I would like to collect more of them. I will be in England 3/14-3/27 – the first week doing a workshop with. Mirjan Geilan at W. Dean College and after that a few days in London. If there was anyway I could visit your shop to get more of your threads, please let me know. Otherwise, I will place another order.
Thank you so much and I do hope you find some down time in the near future.
All my best Mary Roy Portland Maine USA
I hope
Thanks so much, Mary – yes, not much of a break really, in the end, but definitely very productive. I’m so glad you’re enjoying your threads. I don’t have a real life shop or open studio, I’m afraid, so threads etc are only available online. I hope you enjoy your visit to the UK though, it sounds like it will be a very creative break for you 🙂
Welcome back Karen! Lovely to see your beautiful hand-dyed yarns and work. And it appears that spring is in the air in Britain. Here in Canada, it is still very much winter with very cold air. I always look forward to reading your posts and seeing what you are up to creatively. I like what you are doing with the Tabula Rasa (a good name) and the mixed media work. You are very inspiring.
thanks so much Joane, that’s very kind. Yes, spring is definitely here for us on this side of the pond. I love winter best though so I’d be happy with cold air 🙂
Well, the central heating’s not working, and it’s not yet warm enough to do without comfortably, so I am really glad to hear that you’ve had such a productive time!
oh dear, that doesn’t sound good… hope your heating is fixed soon (or the weather gets warmer!)
Progress is being made…!
LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing all your hand dyed yarn/thread!!!!!
thanks so much, got some really pretty colours this time. Lots of work winding it all now 🙂
All the dyed thread look just amazing! So incredibly pretty. And I love Tabula Rasa.
Thank you for the heads up on your shop. I got myself a few more sets of fabric as I’m planning on working through the Stitched Samples for Sketchbooks class. I need something uplifting and soothing and quiet and that’s a start. 😉 We shall see what they become.
It is 97 degrees here in Los Angeles today. Which apparently is 36 C. At any rate errands and in with the air going now. But I’m glad you had such lovely weather.
goodness, that’s hot! Two sunny days at 12 degrees was good enough for me 😆
And thank you – fabrics will be with you soon I hope.
In the meantime stay cool 😎
