In my new life of freedom from the nine to five treadmill, I’m trying to set aside Fridays for research and development (AKA playing).
I was given these beautiful super-granulation Schmincke watercolours for Christmas but have been really busy since January and I’ve been trying to set aside some time to try them. It turns out today was the day.

I’m no great watercolourist but what I like most about watercolour paints is that it’s quite hard to make anything look ugly. I really like the granulation effect.

Hope your Friday is as happy as mine.
Your creativity makes me smile. Thanks for sharing.
Your lovely comment made me smile, thank you 🙂
Schmincke are really good, aren’t they!
And yes, it’s very important to have an R&D/Play day. It feeds the mind, feeds the soul, and keeps the poor overworked freelance in tune with themselves. And while I’m sure I’m not the only one who will love to see what you are playing at, pressure to post about it will reduce the fun. So don’t succumb unless you wish to!
Yes indeed, first time I’ve used this brand and I’m very impressed. I love granulating colours – I guess they’re a bit like hand-dyed thread in that the colours can change quite unpredictably. Loads of fun! I don’t feel any pressure to post, generally – though I do sometimes wonder if random non-stitching posts are what anyone wants to see. Having said that, I do want to develop more mixed media/sketchbook work this year.
I’m in love with these, Karen.
Thanks so much, Maureen. Just me playing really. I really like the looseness of watercolour, it can be very impressionistic when there isn’t a plan.
Ooooooooo. I’ve got to get some of those. Very cool.
I like them a lot
Well they turned out rather well! Love them.
I’ve never heard of these type of watercolors and your sample makes me want some. Such a pretty fun piece you’ve made.
