Sincere apologies to James Brown and Pigbag. Couldn’t resist.
Also apologies for the slightly surreal title and intro there. A week off has done me the world of good, as you can see.
But I genuinely did need a new pegbag. My old one was literally falling apart.

I used the old one as a template and made a paper pattern, which turned into paper-pieced patchwork, and then it all went a bit Mondrian:

Completely hand-pieced and hand-stitched, it went together pretty quickly really. It’s lined with medium-weight calico for extra strength and stability.

And the back:

I made its mouth a little less gapey than the previous one.

It’s full of pegs and ready for the next wash day.

I was even able to salvage some of the lining from the old one. This batik fabric was one of my favourites and I used the last of it many years ago. You can see the difference in colour and quality between the side that’s been exposed to the light and the side that’s been kept in the dark.

Jobs for next week include trying to get my new patchwork course videos recorded. The shop will remain closed while I attend to recording the lessons, and then I’ll try to dye/restock threads probably in September.
Always busy.

A Mondrian pegbag! Far too good to put away in a cupboard 😁
Actually looking forward to hanging some washing out 😆
Well now I need a new peg bag too.😁
highly recommended 😆 It will definitely brighten up my next laundry day 🙂
Cute as a bugs ear!
🙂
Okay, admittedly I wasn’t sure just what a pegbag was. Then I had the big ohhhh with the words “wash day”. It’s the classy version of the American plain white duck clothespin bag. I do miss hanging out clothes, sort of.
ah, I did wonder whether I should have said clothespins as well as pegs – but glad you got it. We don’t have a dryer so the washing line outside is the best way.
I’m a rack dryer myself, but I still use pegs/clothespins to keep my pantry bags closed
love the Mondrian riff … have been considering a large scale Mondrian-style throw for someday
that would be fab! I have similar plans – someday – for a large scale Paul-Klee-vibe throw.
It’s lovely Karen, I have memories of my mum having a nice little lilac and white checked one……many years ago. ( I think it was in the shape of a dress.)
Sadly my pegs live in a cheap plastic basket so I’m tempted to dive into my fabric scraps and make myself a charming little bag like yours.
Fiona.
thanks Fiona – yes I think I remember something similar in the shape of a dress many years ago. A surprisingly satisfying thing to make 🙂
That turned out well, didn’t it!
Definitely an improvement on the old one 🙂
