Apologies for a housekeeping post today that is big on words and small on pictures.
I’m decreasing my online presence, mainly to reduce and streamline the number of places I need to manage.
I am keeping my accounts on Teachable (for online teaching), Big Cartel (for threads, fabrics and PDFs), and the website/blog (here) for general progress reports and updates.
I’m currently in the process of moving away from Meta. I’ll be deleting my Facebook page shortly, along with Threads (on Instagram). I’ve issued an invitation to members of my Facebook group (Stitching Life Community) to see if anyone would like to take on the admin role so that the group can stay open. I’m not particularly optimistic that anyone will want to take it on, so I’m prepared for the possibility that the group will close as well. Other slow stitch/hand embroidery/textiles groups are available, of course. At some point I will also move away from Instagram.
I’ve set up a new account on Blue Sky for quick posts and pictures of daily stitching etc, so if you’re already there do come and say hello.
I did say a few weeks ago that 2025 would be the year of less. I hadn’t entirely foreseen this, but I do feel a little more comfortable about being in fewer places at once.

Less is definitely more (smile). I am hoping to do a similar thing. Life is complicated enough without continuing to juggle the unnecessary.
Ha, exactly, thanks Stephanie. Definitely too much juggling going on here, and most of it is duplicated posts. Just makes more sense to cut down a bit.

I think we all could use a whole lot less of the “meta-verse” I have been contemplating how to minimize my footprint as well!
I think a lot of people are feeling the same right now. But yes, I think less is enough – for me, at least
I am so pleased to see the resurgence of blogs as a part of the move away from Meta … I confess that I haven’t warmed up to BlueSky (yet?), but will happily follow you here!
yes I agree, Liz. I use my blog in place of a website and it’s perfectly adequate for that purpose. I quite like BlueSky so far. It will eventually be my only social media.

I agree that the move away from the Metaverse is needed and of course, making all of our lives more simple so that we can save our energy to stand up for what is right and good is going to be necessary.

Good on you – I’m working up to removing myself from meta as well. I think you are not alone in trying to reduce the ‘noise’ of online life (as well as questionable ethics of social media owners).
thanks Lucia, yes the noise is definitely at unacceptable levels at the moment. And of course the ethics inevitably does play a huge part in this decision. I have to be careful what I say in my posts otherwise I attract angry comments from supporters of the man who now cannot be named anywhere on this blog because I muted the words 😆

I spend too much time on bluesky. I’ve withdrawn from Insta but will probably keep my name.
I’ve tried to set up my blog so it functions as a kind of website (though really it’s always going to be just a souped-up blog). I was spending too much time and energy managing the FB page and group, so I know what you mean.
I’m a bit in two minds about Instagram – there’s a lot I don’t like about it, but equally there’s a lot I do like. I do have a pretty good following there and starting all over again somewhere else does feel a bit daunting. Just having a think about that for now, but ultimately I think I intend to come off Meta all together at some point.
I’m also not sure what to do about Instagram.
I don’t have much of a following, but the people I follow are all amazing. I think I’m going to just be on a very extended break and make a decision in 6 months or a year.
I think my “website” will always be a blog as well. I was so deeply in to that and I miss it. even if the landscape is very changed.
that’s a good idea I think, to have a break and then re-evaluate the value of Insta. I don’t really see any difference between a website with a blog and a blog with website-type pages. I’ll definitely keep my WordPress site. My favourite bit is the comments section 🙂
