I did try very hard to like the circles that I had planned for next year’s daily stitching.

And actually, I do like them – but just not for daily stitching.
So I had to go back to the drawing board and do a bit of cutting-and-pasting.

It’s turned out – unintentionally – to be very similar to this year’s. It’s another grid, but with a variety of different shapes – short rectangles, long rectangles, and squares (or circles). I’ve enjoyed the framework of the grid this year, and, as I primarily design these things in line with my own preferences, I’m using a grid design again. I also like the way a grid lets me find a use for my textured yarns.
I’m working up a little sample to make a protective cover for the 2027 stitching, and so far I think it will be fun.

I hope to have the new template available by the end of next month, if anyone wants to use it.
As always, it’s not a stitch-along, there are no prompts, and there’s nothing to sign up for. It’s just me doing a bit of hand stitching every day. If you can find a little peace and contentment in doing something similar, then that’s a good and beautiful thing.
If you’re new to the idea of daily stitching, there’s a stitch journal FAQ page here.
Until then, I’m having a little rummage in some lovely autumn colours…

…and keeping calm and carrying on.

thanks so much Lisa, how lovely 🙂
I think that sounds wonderful. I will buy the template x
thanks so much for your faith and enthusiasm Andrea 🙂
Looks like a great grid for 2027! Thank you for keeping us updated. I found some silk threads from my great aunt that were made in Germany on short paper rolled spools. I would never have understood how to use them if I hadn’t found your stitching videos. I have used a few of them and find them such a treat. You have expanded my stitching life. Yeah, You and lucky me. Best wishes always.
Ah, lucky you! Vintage silk threads are beautiful to stitch with. Thanks so much for your kind words too 🙂
I would like to try dying some of my own. Do you have a suggestion on how to go about it? Thank you
There are lots of videos on YouTube that show you how to dye thread and yarn. There are probably websites with instructions too, if you try an internet search for dyeing embroidery thread.
This looks like fun – will there be a printed fabric we can purchase? I sure hope so. Would have never been able to work on this this year without it.
Thanks so much, Susan – but sorry, there won’t be pre-printed fabric for this one. The template is pretty easy to draw by hand though.
I like the circles very much but perhaps used here and there instead of all over. I love the warm fall colors of your threads, an interesting contrast to the cooling temperatures.
thanks very much Stephanie, I came to the same conclusion in the end – circles, but not so many. Better, I think.
I like the new version!
thanks so much Linda, I like it too and am feeling much more enthused about next year now 🙂
I love the re-vision❤️Sent from my iPadOn Oct 12, 2026,
thanks so much, glad you like it – I’m much happier with this one
What a treat to see this! The proposed cover for next year’s template looks beautiful, and I think your idea of a mix of long and short rectangles, squares, and scattered circles is going to look great–I can’t wait. I liked very much, by the way, your thoughts the other day regarding how precious life is and how spending a little time each day to honor and mark its preciousness, experience some quiet presence in that brief interval, and I loved the little piece next to the filmed one you presented a few days ago, the one with just running stitches and what appeared to be rather openly spaced seed stitches–you commented on your rather liking it, too, in that video. I don’t know why, but it’s one of my favorites of your daily creations; maybe it’s its utter simplicity but real beauty. Thanks so much for all this. (From Mike in the mountains of N.C.–just following the instruction here to “add my name.”)
Thanks so much for this, Mike – and for your great generosity, because actually I believe the mix of shapes was your idea 🙂
But I like very much how it’s turned out, and thank you again for the prompt. I’m really looking forward to starting it in January.
Thanks too for your kind words about the very simple block – also one of my favourites, as it turns out.
Hi Karen. I really like next year’s format and am glad there will be grid lines. This time I am going to get them done before the start of the new year! I would love to come across some vintage linen to use; but, I’m not exactly sure what I am looking for. I’m assuming I will need a square yard if it is to be similar to this year. I guess I’ll have to wander some thrift shops with needle in hand! Once again many thanks for the time and effort you expend to add joy to my life.
So glad you like the new grid, Kay – and yes, I usually prep mine by stitching the grid lines before I begin.
The complete grid measures about 31″ square, so should fit comfortably on a square yard. You can find vintage linen/cotton-blend bed sheets online fairly easily, though they are expensive (but huge!) if you only want to use a yard of it. You can also try searching for ‘vintage linen tablecloth’; they pop up fairly regularly on eBay and Etsy. Failing that, any medium weight linen or cotton fabric will be fine. Happy stitching! Thanks so much for your kind words too 🙂
Dear KarenThank you for your sympathetic, surprisingly honest and always encouraging posts. Can you please change my contact email address from blueyonder.co.uk tocarolewebb00@gmail.comThank youCarole Sent from my iPhoneOn 12 Oct 2026,
Thank you Carole, I’ve updated that for you
The new formula looks lovely – I’ve recently discovered your work and will join in next year. Pleased it’s rectangles not circles – I’m doing circles this year with Anne Brooke. Thanks for the inspiration, and good wishes.
Thank you Eileen; I hadn’t realised Anne was doing circles next year. Hope you enjoy your 2027 stitch adventures 🙂
Wishing you a happy rummage among your threads..
thanks so much. I’ve been trying to visit your blog for weeks now Rachel but it’s coming up with a ‘not safe’ error – have you moved it?
